“Power Hidden in a Choice” by Rev. Roger Ray (YouTube video)
The two-faced Roman god, Janus, was often portrayed as a door with one face looking toward where you have been and the other looking towards where you are going. New Year’s Day ushers us into the month of January, named for Janus, symbolically suggesting that we are leaving an old year and entering a new one. This seems like a good idea, especially this year, as long as we don’t drag our anger, resentment, and hurt from 2017 into 2018.
Dr. Roger Ray is the founding pastor of The Emerging Church and the author of Progressive Faith and Practice, and Progressive Conversations. Dr. Ray earned his M.Div. and D.Min. degrees at Vanderbilt and was a 2004 Merrill Fellow at Harvard. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
